Art Arcadia Residency

FL*OOOW : ORIENT_ORNAMENT_ORDERS
NOVEMBER 2019 – JANUARY 2020

CAAKE IS COMING TO DERRY CITY NEXT WEEK

From 4th November 19 until 1st Feb 2020, we are excited to take up a 3 month winter residency at ART ARCADIA space at St. Augustine’ s Old School House.

CAAKE founder Gail Mahon and project co-founder Tara J Murphy are evolving the project as a practice as ways to enagage in progressive practices for education with invited artist David Blackmore in responding to:

F L *O O O W : ORIENT_ ORNAMENT_ORDER

FL*OOOW invites differing perspectives upon ‘freedom of movement’ through a series of inter-disciplinary collaborations and invite musings upon ecology of practices to address a loss of common orientations within ourselves, our local environments and the shared futures on this uniquely positioned planet we call home.

We are putting out questions derived through artistic research and working through processes of collaboration, participatory workshops, performance, installation and discussion events. Over the course of three months these questions will mediate, speculate and interrogate practices to directly find new co-ordinates (or orders) of being which can address phenomenal, biological, political and cultural diversity as new ecological forces for life.

Simply – how we can thrive, adapt, learn and evolve our communities and families as a force of change with renewed creative, adaptive education for life in these uncertain times.

Gail, Tara and David will lead a collaborative conversation each month with other practitioners through experimental production or performance as active research in participatory works. These collaborative conversations which will conclude in a final residency exhibition and public discussion event at the end of January.

In our follow-up series of posts we will introduce you to our wonderful array of artists, writers, performers who will be involved in developing the residencies. We will also shine a light on events and ways that you can get involved here on our Facebook page over the coming weeks.

*ORIENT _NOVEMBER RESIDENCY
The residency begins by exploring the boundaries of movement that extend beyond the surface of the body, a sensing and perceptive place that locates out of chaos, to access original pathways of the lived performance, including conditions in states as materials-in-process of space, people and objects.

*ORNAMENT_DECEMBER RESIDENCY
The convergence with objects continues in December to investigate values outside of the body, into space that are local to us and we inhabit daily, localising patterns of (sometimes) instinctual behaviours of collecting, assembling, arranging and adorning cultural values.

*ORDER _ JANUARY RESIDENCY
Pushing beyond these spheres the focus will expand into social borders, personal, socially imposed, identity politics and ways movement can be shared expressions of the State and physical landscape to denote our position of nationality in current climates of uncertainty.

JANUARY EXHIBITION AND PUBLIC DISCUSSION EVENT
All three spheres within FL*OOOW overlap, unraveling purposeful lines of inquiry to incite more questions over our ‘current’ practices and actions directly investigating what artistic research can do physically to progress best practices of creative living. These processes will be used as a socially engaged form of collective motivation and education to be useful and transformative methods to review, inhabit new frames of identity and relationships to our changing social and climate conditions.

(-cross) (-trans) (-inter) disciplinary platforms are welcome to share and exchange experiences and research methods to speculative new perspectives and new beginnings with an emphasis upon:

MATERIALITY (time, space, process in production, participation, culture)
MOVEMENT PRACTICES (health, wellbeing, dance, performance, sports, outdoor activities)
ECOLOGY (activism, protection, conservation, environmental damage and recovery actions as communities).
